O deputado republicano da Flórida, Matt Gaetz, entrou com uma ação criminal junto ao procurador-geral do Departamento de Justiça, William Barr, contra o CEO do Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, por acusações de que o empresário teria feito declarações falsas ao Congresso norte-americano. Segundo Gaetz, as declarações ocorreram enquanto Zuckerberg estava sob juramento em duas audiências conjuntas ocorridas em 10 e 11 de abril de 2018.
De acordo com um comunicado enviado pelo republicano para a imprensa, “Zuckerberg negou repetidamente e categoricamente que sua empresa estivesse envolvida em preconceitos contra discurso, pessoas, políticas ou política conservadora e também negou que o Facebook censurasse e suprimisse o conteúdo que apoiava o presidente Donald Trump e outros conservadores.”
