Morreu na manhã desta terça-feira (07), no Hospital Geral de Camaçari, o escritor e funcionário público, José Batista de Freitas Mattos. Ele estava internado para fazer uma cirurgia de troca de prótese de fêmur. No entanto, devido às complicações de trombose, que evoluiu para embolia pulmonar, o quadro se complicou. Jose Batista faleceu após sofrer uma parada cardíaca na manhã desta terça.
Batista, como era conhecido, escreveu dois livros: Um Setanejo no Poder, que conta a vida de João Durval e O Mito, que fala da trajetória de ACM. Batista era solteiro, não deixa filhos. Ele também era irmão do jornalista Joilton Freitas.
